Quite country roads

Golf at Brighouse Bay

Our part of Dumfries & Galloway is essentially a rural farming area well away from large towns. The small towns close to us provide all our requirements. The shops are small, friendly and mostly family owned - life is generally relaxed and undisturbed - rural pursuits and leisure activities abound.

Families can enjoy the facilities at Cream o' Galloway which has nature trails, an adventure playground and a tearoom all set on a working Galloway farm. There is a swimming pool and other facilities at nearby Brighouse Bay Centre and of course there are several excellent beaches within easy driving distance if you are looking for an old-fashioned bucket and spade holiday.

Cycling. National Cycle Route 7 passes our door and we are a convenient stopping off place for weary cyclists. Our area though has much to offer those seeking a more leisurely cycling holiday. Our roads are generally quiet,. contours are gentle, sea air is fresh and clean, views are exceptional. We are also roughly midway between the 7stanes mountain biking centres at Dalbeattie and Kirroughtree Forests, where there are family routes and skill loops for all levels of experience.

Walking. Great coastal walks can be had almost from our doorstep, and our quite country roads and pastoral landscapes are ideal to escape into. Slightly further afield there are a great many signposted and graded forest walks for you to seek out and enjoy.

Golf. Across Dumfries & Galloway we have around 30 golf course about a third of which are within 30 minutes or so driving time from Borgue. On our doorstep is Brighouse Bay (18), a modern and friendly course with all facilities. Kirkcudbright (18) Gatehouse of Fleet (9) Newtown Stewart (18) New Galloway (9) and Castle Douglas (9) are all easily accessible as are those at Dalbeattie and the Colvend shore. Six and ten round multi-course passes can be purchased in advance. Phone the Tourist Board (01387 245566) for more information.

Fishing. Special arrangements can be made for you to fly-fish at Barmagachan Fisheries just a few minutes drive away where rainbow trout fishing is available. Sea fishing is also available from the rocks around our local coastline.

Sailing. The sheltered tidal bays in our area are popular, particularly with dinghy sailors. Several points of access are available and we would be happy to advise.

And of course the area has a great selection of open gardens and garden centres, of museums, art galleries and visitor centres, of castles and historic attractions, and of places just to relax and unwind, explore and discover.
